There’s an often overlooked advantage to using a dry flower vaporizer that not enough people know about. It’s possible to use vaporizer leftovers to extract cannabinoids into oil or butter. Because the material is toasted, it’s already decarboxylated, so all you have to do is collect it over time and once you have approx. 2oz worth of flower, you’re ready to stir up some medicated cannabis cooking oil.
The only downside is that the toasted plant taste will carry over into the edibles. After having tried edibles made with clean rosin, the hashy taste of this cannabis oil is mildly disappointing but there’s an old-school charm and thriftiness to it that we’re calling undeniably chill. Using the method below, you can go from vaporizer leftovers to usable edibles in as little as half a day.
For its high-fat content and health, we’re fond of MCT (medium chain triglyceride) oil. There are fancy versions of it but you can also find it in the grocery store as coconut cooking oil because it is essentially coconut oil that doesn’t harden. MCT oil is super versatile. Use it for smoothies and juices, Bulletproof Coffee, topical application, sublingually, in capsules, or straight-up.
This recipe calls for 2 ounces of vaporized weed and 2 cups of coconut oil, which you can adjust to your liking.
