In a perfect world, dogs would never grow old or feel pain. However, our world is far from perfect and many dogs suffer in their old age. There is, however, something you can do to ease that suffering: hemp oil.
In the first of its kind, Cornell University has paired with ElleVet Sciences to prove the effectiveness of hemp oil against osteoarthritis and joint pain. The double-blind controlled study found that dogs given hemp oil soft chews as opposed to a placebo saw significant relief from these two issues.
The eight month study, recently announced at the Veterinary Meeting & Expo by Joseph Wakshlag, associate professor of Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, states that ElleVet’s hemp soft chews were “efficacious for pain in dogs with osteoarthritis, chronic joint pain and geriatric pain and soreness; with dramatic beneficial effects in our more geriatric patients.”
This study is the first definitive proof that hemp oil can help dogs with joint pain and osteoarthritis. ElleVet and Cornell are also pursuing research on a product for cats, leading us to a way to ease the discomfort our precious best friends may have.
In addition to pain relief, there is anecdotal evidence that hemp oil can help dogs with seizures, anxiety, cognitive function, and perhaps more. So all-in-all, adding hemp oil to your dog’s diet should yield positive effects.
