MedReleaf Corp. (TSX: LEAF) announced yesterday that they have entered into an agreement to become a medical cannabis supplier to Shoppers Drug Mart.
Based on the terms of the agreement, Shoppers Drug Mart will be supplied with MedReleaf branded medical cannabis products – under the assumption Health Canada approves Shoppers Drug Mart’s application to become a licensed producer (sale license only). At this point, it is expected that all MedReleaf products would be sold online, as current Canadian regulations restrict the sale of medical cannabis in retail pharmacies.
“From inception, MedReleaf has been focused on setting the standard for patient care in our industry and producing consistent, high quality medicine,” said Neil Closner, CEO of MedReleaf. “With this agreement, we look forward to making our award-winning strains available as the trusted provider of premium cannabis-based pharmaceutical products to the largest pharmacy retailer in Canada.”
It was less than a month ago that we learned that licensed producer Aphria signed a five-year agreement to supply Shoppers Drug Mart with its branded medical cannabis.
Shoppers Drug Mart’s parent company, Loblaw Companies Ltd. has previously stated that they believe pharmacists and pharmacies will have an important role to play in the distribution of medical cannabis to patients across the country.
