Many of the terms are familiar; they incorporate a country—Panama, India, Mexico—or a strain name, or a reference to the colour green: Green, Green Crack, Green-Eyed Girl, Green Eyes, Green Goblin, Green Goddess, Green Mercedes Benz, Green Paint, Green Skunk, and Greenhouse, to name a few. Others are a little more puzzling.
Here are four trends we found while combing through the list
There are references to items of clothing. Shoes flung around the hydro lines by their shoelaces is a supposed sign for “there are drugs to be had here,” but it’s not clear that’s the origin of the term on the DEA list.
Food items, it seems, fall into two categories: food that pot either smells like or resembles. But then there’s a newcomer to the list: terps. Terps refers to the terpenes, or essential oils, in the plant and though it may be a slang term, it’s one that’s used by cannabis connoisseurs.
3. Low-Key Celebs
What do Bernie Sanders, a small white politician, and Biggie Smalls (Christopher George Latore Wallace), a massive, deceased black rapper, have in common besides hailing from the northeastern United States? Their names are common enough pot slang that they made the DEA list.
4. Regional References
Place names are slightly less exotic these days. The following slang terms don’t refer to a strain of any sort but the region of origin instead.
