Stars In The Pot Biz

Celebrities See Bright Future In The Cannabis Industry

Celebrities are getting into the weed game at a pace I don’t think anyone could have predicted. Celebrities have fame and money and in the marketing world, name recognition is everything. Pairing up celebrities and pot is a match made in heaven. Whether it’s their name on a strain, a pipe, or the building from which you purchase your herb, the era of celebrities in the pot biz ha officially begun. Here are a couple celebrity endeavors you are bound to come across in the not too distant future.

Country music star Melissa Etheridge is ramping up her own brand of cannabis. Etheridge Farms is Melissa’s new marijuana line, and is set to release a wide range of products from flower and concentrates to tinctures and edibles. Melissa discovered the healing powers of cannabis after being diagnosed with cancer. She credits marijuana with her recovery, as more than a decade after being diagnosed, she remains cancer free. Etheridge Farms has set up shop in California, where they have their sights sets on tackling the billion dollar medical marijuana market.

Long time marijuana advocate Willie Nelson has set up shop in Colorado and launched his own line of marijuana products called Willie’s Reserve. Willie has been singing the praises of marijuana for decades, and has even admitted to puffing down on the roof of the White House with Jimmy Carter’s son. Willie’s Reserve products are available throughout California, Nevada and Colorado, where his organization is located. He has yet to open a store front of his own, but after a round of hiring for his new Colorado facility, it’s only a matter of time.

That’s right, even Whoopi Goldberg has gotten in on the action. Whoopi Goldberg and partner Maya Elizabeth have teamed up to create a line of marijuana products for women called Whoopi & Maya Medical Cannabis. Their goal was to create a cannabinoid rich line of lotions, bath salts and edibles. One look at their website and you can tell that Whoopi cut no corners and without a doubt did her homework. The site is packed full of great information on the science behind how her products help ease the pain of menstrual cramps. For now, Whoopi’s medical marijuana products are only available in California.

South African rappers Die Antwoord, who have become infamous for the Zef style beats they produce, introduced their own marijuana line called Zef Zol. You won’t see any flower coming from the hip hop duo, but you will find edibles, vapes, lotions, and undoubtedly a line of clothing to accompany it. Die Antwoord were thrust into the limelight with a starring role in the Hugh Jackman movie Chappie, about an AI come to life. The duo partnered with Natural Cannabis out of northern California to produce their line, which is available now.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa has made it clear that he is all in on cannabis. Wiz set up shop in Las Vegas Nevada, where his own grow pumps out huge quantities of Khalifa Kush, a strain hand crafted for Wiz himself. The strain drew some attention after a misunderstanding on Twitter led to beef between Wiz and Kanye West. The recipe for Khalifa Kush is top secret, however Wiz has alluded to the fact that it is an OG Kush decedent. Those who have tried it say it has a cerebral high and has the aroma of citrus and pine.
