Canadian Cannabis Co-op Forms In Alberta

It’s been announced today that a cooperative has been formed with a group of twelve of Canada’s foremost licensed cannabis producers. Called the Canadian Cannabis Co-op, they’re focused on creating a turn-key retail solution that will address the challenges as the province of Alberta begins to roll out a safe and regulated retail model that is also socially responsible.

By having this Co-op in place, the government of Alberta has a solid group behind them who can assist with the set-up and implementation of both the distribution and sale of recreational cannabis. Also, by having representatives from so many key Licensed Producers, this allows the cannabis consumers to have a voice and help decide on important decisions such as, which products will be sold.

Darren Karasiuk, Chair of the Co-op working group noted, “We believe The Co-op model is a win for the government, the taxpayer and the consumer. It requires no taxpayer dollars, creates hundreds of direct jobs, generates a revenue stream for government above direct taxation and can be put in place by July 1st of 2018 ensuring Albertans have access to safe, regulated cannabis from a diverse group of companies. Alberta is the perfect place to launch the Canadian Cannabis Co-op. which we believe will be an example that other provinces follow as we move closer to legalization.”

Alberta is set to benefit from the direct investment of tens of millions of dollars in infrastructure, as well as, the creation of over 500 jobs which would provide $30M+ dollars in wages.

The Co-op currently includes: ABCann, Aphria, Bonify, CannTrust, Cronos Group, Emblem, Emerald, Hydropothecary, MedReleaf, Newstrike (Parent Company of Up Cannabis), Organigram, and Tilray, and they’re inviting all LPs both large and craft to join.
