Blunts! Why do some people love them and others avoid them?

Blunts are one of the most culturally symbolic ways to smoke weed.

The act of gutting a Backwood or Phillies Blunt cigar and filling it with marijuana is very popular these days. You may also know them by their nickname "Dutch," which refers to Dutch Masters. Other fav choices are Swisher Sweets and White Owl wrappers.

However, even a few high-profile, weed-smoking rappers have sworn off blunts because of the health concerns. Wiz Khalifa's not a fan of blunts, so don't you dare light one up in his recording studio.

Blunts produce a slower burn that works well for smoke circles. They may also get you a little higher than a joint filled with marijuana, according to this study.

But, are blunts bad for your health?

Yes, blunts are one of the least healthy ways to ingest cannabis.

Due to the tobacco content, prolonged blunt use can come with some nasty side effects. Weed smoke is typically inhaled and held in the lungs briefly before being exhaled. In the case of blunts, that means you’re retaining tobacco smoke in your lungs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that at least 70 of the 7,000 chemicals produced by tobacco smoke are “known to cause cancer in people or animals.” Even secondhand smoke from tobacco pipes and cigars can cause cancer.

Joints, even though they still use combustion, are still safer, again due to nothing more than the fact that the typical joint has no tobacco. So, if you're on #teamblunt, just try to smoke them occasionally, as we all want our health to remain unharmed.
