Data scientists from Statistics Canada want to know: How much do you pay for marijuana?

They're collecting this information through a nondescript online survey that merely asks, “Tell us about your last purchase of dried cannabis.”

The survey asks respondents how much they paid for marijuana, the quantity, where it came from, the quality of the weed and its purpose—recreational or medicinal.

Curious, but nervous? No worries. The national statistics agency is not collecting identifying information from respondents, so there's no risk of submitting this information; even if you're underage. In fact, if you're buying weed on the black market now, it could end up saving you in the long run.

Stats Can is taking this alternative crowdsourcing measure to determine the price of cannabis across the board in an attempt to price legal cannabis low enough to eliminate the illegal market.

Secondarily, it will help them gauge the production and consumption of cannabis while it's still in this illegal state so that we know the impact of legalization on Canada's gross domestic product.

There have been more than 11,000 responses from “honest Canadians” to the survey since it launched on Jan. 23. From those responses, it looks like the price of recreational cannabis has been declining since 1991 by an average of 1.6% per year and dropped to $8.30 per gram in 2017.

On top of that, Canadians spent more than 5.7 billion on marijuana in 2017. Most of those purchases were for recreational use.

There's still time to tell Stats Can—again, anonymously—about your last weed purchase here.

So, how much are you paying to restock that stash?
