The 2018 Farm Bill has an epic win written into it for the hemp industry. H.R. 2, also known as The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 will lift the decades-old Draconian prohibition of hemp. Hemp fell into the category of cannabis and has been under federal prohibition since 1937.

Like medical cannabis, hemp produces a vital phytocannabinoid called CBD. CBD is now legal when it is hemp derived thanks to text in the 2018 farm bill. Along with CBD all other phytocannabinoids extracted from hemp such as CBN and CBG are also legal under the new legislation.

This means thanks to the Senate and the House reaching an agreement, that industrial hemp will now be legal in the United States. The new farm bill is responsible for introducing the first changes to be made to the Controlled Substance Act of 1970 since it was written.

What is Legal?

Hemp products will be exempt from being listed as a schedule 1 controlled substance as long as the THC content or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is 0.3% or less. Consumers of CBD products will no longer have to fear actions from law enforcement, and retailers will also get to enjoy the same freedom.

Now hemp farmers and those who have CBD products derived from Industrial Hemp will have the freedom to use and sell hemp products, to conduct research, to grow and produce hemp, as well as conduct interstate commerce.

Hemp is a natural alternative to fossil fuels for oil. It can build and be used to create anything that wood can, meaning legalization could help to drastically reduce deforestation. Hemp is also a very nutritional substance that can be used for dietary and medicinal purposes.

All in all, the 2018 Farm Bill is a hempsational piece of news for anyone who loves the planet and wants to see it have a greener, healthier, and happier future.
