Many politicians and medical professionals have argued against legalization of cannabis using the argument that the cannabis of today isn't like the cannabis of yesteryear. While this is a really horrible argument to use to try and fight against the demise of prohibition, I couldn't agree with them more.
The cannabis of today and the cannabis-derived products that are available for purchase in legal markets is nothing like the weed you bought back in high school in 1970.
Today as the legal market for cannabis expands globally there are regulated and licensed manufacturers and cultivators that are offering a plethora of different cannabis products and a wide variety of different potencies.
Many cultivators and product manufacturers have been focused on high THC strains. These are the strains with the highest concentration of the psychoactive cannabinoid that recreational users love. However, that isn't the case today as this community is going mainstream.
Not everyone in this growing culture, community, or industry is a daily consumer. Not everyone has been consuming cannabis for several years.
In fact, according to some reports a large portion of the legal consumer market in states that have legalized recreational cannabis consists of individuals that only consume once to twice per month.
These individuals, as well as many consumers that are in their older years, prefer not to get stoned out of their mind but would still love to enjoy the benefits that cannabis offers.
One report that I read on this topic made a really great reference. Someone consuming a cannabis edible with 150 mg of THC in it compared to someone consuming an edible with 5 to 10 mg of THC in it is kind of like comparing giving someone a glass of wine or several shots of whiskey.
In legal cannabis markets, we are starting to see more and more products on the shelf that provide low concentrations of THC with higher levels of the non-psychoactive cannabinoid known as CBD.
These products are opening the doors for more and more cannabis curious individuals to partake in a toke, eat an edible or even enjoy a cannabis-infused bath time soak without the fear of flying higher than they would like!Posted: Tuesday, November 6th, 11:00am 9 days ago
James has a passion for wordsmithing content specific to the cannabis community, culture, and industry. This father of seven spends all his time writing about the plant he loves. James believes that cannabis should be an essential part of everyone's life but, this doesn't mean that everyone has to get stoned to do this. Only through education and sharing the stories of the community can we help to tear down the negative walls of stigmas and stereotypes that cannabis has received or the last 80 years. James likes to say, "A single seed can tip the scales, be the seed."
