Hi-Fi Hops from Lagunitas is the latest marriage between beer and bud, but you'll have to be in California to buy it. Based on what reps from Lagunitas have to say, the values behind the beverage are unmistakably Californian.

“The idea of being a part of a no-calorie beverage infused with cannabis seemed like a perfect next step in our product innovation and a natural way to marry our past with our future," said Maria Stipp, Lagunitas CEO

“We often dream of hops and their cannabis cousin partying together at their family reunion. We wanted to bring this party to life in a drink. We believe that it’s high-time that good beer inspired a provocative yet refreshing tasting non-alcoholic alternative—bubbly, aromatic, bitter, fruity and herbaceous with no gluten, no carbohydrates and a smidge of California sun-grown cannabis in every sip.”

— Jeremy Marshall, Lagunitas’ brewmaster.

Providing the cannabis for Lagunitas is AbsoluteXtracts, a manufacturer of strain-specific products. According to the company’s blog, this isn't the first collaboration with Lagunitas. It reads, "we got together with craft-beer masters, Lagunitas, and gave them terpenes from our GSC and Blue Dream to create a limited-edition brew called “SuperCritical.”

Success achieved, they tried reversing the sequence. "Then, we blended our potent distillate cannabis oil with terpenes extracted from mosaic, citra, and other hop varietals to create two flavors using Lagunitas’ proprietary hop-blend recipes. That’s how we ended up with the cartridges Stereoterpical (think: crisp, citrusy ale) and Hop Cannon (think: hoppy, IPA-style)."

Last year's big news was that Constellation Brands (makers of Corona) bought a 9.9% stake in Canadian marijuana company Canopy Growth Corp, with alleged plans to create a cannabis beer.

Lagunitas, however, is the first major brewery to successfully and legally create a THC-infused beverage. The new product—one with 10 mg of THC and one combining 5 mg of THC with 5 mg of CBD —will be available in California cannabis dispensaries on July 30.
